About

Welcome to the Richard Wright website, a space which aims to offer a unique insight into his musical life. This site doesn’t profess to be a comprehensive or encyclopaedic source of Richard Wright facts and figures or trivia. It is rather somewhere to explore and hopefully come away with a better sense of who Richard was creatively and what influenced his music, as part of and apart from Pink Floyd. Giving him an online presence is well overdue and we have spent some time curating and archiving content that we feel best celebrates his legacy in a way he would feel comfortable with.

Through his own words and images, his musical loves and photos as well as the words of those who knew and worked with him, we believe that he would be happy to have this more personal window into his creative world opened.

As a founder member, Richard’s part in the Pink Floyd story runs from the band’s inception to the posthumous ‘Endless River’. A hiatus after ‘The Wall’ until re-joining for Momentary Lapse of Reason is well documented but with little clarity. Anyone looking for details about this period won’t find it here, we believe his musical contribution throughout the band’s changing incarnations speaks for itself.

Referred to interchangeably as Rick or Richard, he was often dubbed the ‘quiet one’; a cliché perhaps, but the label was hard won in a band where ‘quiet ones’ were in the majority. He was a notoriously modest and private person, who often looked for ways to escape from the world. Nevertheless, he was proud of his work and achievements and welcomed recognitionwhen it was offered.

It is fair to say that Rick’s musical output, within Pink Floyd and in his solo work, was strongly affected by influential personalities in both his professional and personal life. It hasn’t been possible to talk to everyone we’d like to, but we hope to have more contributions in the future and will share these when we can.

Aside from this introduction, we have intentionally kept words to a minimum throughout the site. This reflects Rick’s tendency to do the same.

Richard’s Family.
